Across the globe, our planet faces a multitude of interconnected challenges that threaten the well-being of animals, ecosystems, and ultimately, humanity itself. From vanishing forests to rising seas, these issues paint a grim picture of our shared future.
However, despair is not the answer. We believe in the undeniable power of education, individual action, and collaboration to create a more sustainable future for our planet and its inhabitants.
No single individual or organization can tackle these challenges alone. By working together, we can turn the tide, protecting the wonders of our shared home for generations to come. Learn about a few of the international concerns we share and the organizations working to drive change.
Big Life Foundation
Nick, our longtime friend, is a multifaceted individual who wears many hats: artist, photographer, activist, and guardian of animals. He is a distinguished recipient of the Humane Society of New York’s Humane Medal and the founder of the Big Life Foundation, an organization dedicated to preserving the beauty and wonder of Africa’s wildlife and wild lands. Big Life’s mission is to partner with local communities to protect nature for the benefit of all while on the ground in East Africa.
Nick Brandt’s book, “This Empty World,” deals with the escalating destruction of the natural world at the hands of humans, showing a world where, overwhelmed by runaway development, there is no longer space for animals to survive. The people in the photos are also often helplessly swept along by the relentless tide of ‘progress’. Environmental degradation will almost always affect poor rural people the most, due to the exhausted natural resources upon which they rely. So the people in this photo are not the aggressors, but like the elephants, victims of environmental degradation beyond their control.
The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
Founded in 1977, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust embraces all measures that complement the conservation, preservation and protection of wildlife and habitats. Working across Kenya, their projects include anti-poaching, safe guarding the natural environment, enhancing community awareness, addressing animal welfare issues, providing veterinary assistance to animals in need, rescuing and hand rearing elephant and rhino orphans, along with other species that can ultimately enjoy a quality of life in wild terms when grown. Dame Daphne Sheldrick is a prestigious recipient of our Humane Medal.
SeaLegacy
SeaLegacy, the 2023 recipient of our Humane Medal, is bringing attention to the oceans and the creatures that live within it, which are vitally important to all our lives. SeaLegacy’s mission is to inspire people to fall in love with the ocean, amplify a network of changemakers around the world, and catalyze hands-on diplomacy through hopeful, world-class visual storytelling. Oceans are the lifeblood of our Earth. Without healthy oceans, we cannot survive.
