Adoption Process

If you are interested in adopting a pet from us, you will need to start the process by filling out an application and submitting it to hsny.adopt@gmail.com. Adoptions are available by appointment only, following the processing and approval of a completed application.

We do not offer same-day adoptions to help ensure that every animal finds a permanent, loving, responsible, forever home. Once we receive a completed application, and upon approval, applicants are invited for appointments to meet the animals. Additionally, we conduct home visits to facilitate a smooth transition from the adoption center to their new home.

Our organization places a strong emphasis on creating the best possible match for each animal. At the Humane Society of New York, we are unwaveringly committed to our adoption animals throughout their lifetime. In the event that an animal needs to be returned post-adoption, for any reason, we never turn them away; they are always welcomed back with open arms.

The Humane Society of New York is a no-kill shelter, providing a special haven where animals in our care have no time limits. We go above and beyond to attend to the medical and daily needs of the dogs and cats, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being. Our dedicated HSNY Adoption Team evaluates each incoming animal, conducting temperament testing, medical, and behavioral assessments. The animals receive personalized training, engage in learning activities, benefit from socialization, participate in playgroups, enjoy appropriate exercise, and receive essential mental stimulation.
