We are proud to say that HSNY has been Green for many years and we are glad others are following our example. It is important for everyone's health.
For over a decade, the Humane Society of New York has been using The Deirdre Imus Environmental Health Center's Greening the Cleaning product line to clean throughout the building. We encourage others to follow this example.
The Humane Society of New York thanks the Benjamin Moore Company and artist Mimi Vang Olsen for their gracious donations. Our brownstone has been repainted in shades of green, set off on the first floor by Mimi's beautiful pet portraits.
So many visitors and passersby have complimented our joyful facade that we wanted to share our makeover secrets! The Benjamin Moore greens that we chose are:

The HSNY prides itself on the care and concern we demonstrate to all our friends - both human and animal - and is thrilled that we are able to have NATURA on our walls where appropriate to ensure they are the "greenest" and safest they can be for all who cross our threshold. We used NATURA, their "green" 0-VOC (zero volatile organic compounds) paint, which remains 0-VOC even after it is tinted with the colors of our choosing. This is not the case with most other paints claiming to be zero. As soon as colorant is added to them the paint stops being a 0-VOC product.
We encourage the use of environmentally-friendly products like NATURA for all those who share our concern for the planet and their own well-being.
